Ramesh Raghupathi headshot

Ramesh Raghupathi, PhD

Ramesh Raghupathi is currently a tenured Professor in the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy at the Drexel University College of Medicine. His research interests focus on the role of neuronal and glial dysfunction in mediating chronic behavioral deficits following traumatic brain injury in children and adolescents. He is funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Veteran’s Administration. He has mentored high school, undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, medical and graduate students throughout his career. His mentoring philosophy is grounded in the belief that “one size DOES NOT fit all”. Each student received personalized attention from me and a plan of study in the lab that is designed to take advantage of their strengths. A major interest for Dr. Raghupathi is public advocacy for science education and funding and improving diversity and equity in biomedical research. Through programs at the Society for Neuroscience and the Annual Biomedical Conference for Minoritized Scientists, he mentors undergraduate and graduate students as well as post-doctoral fellows who come from socially and economically disadvantaged communities underrepresented in science and medicine. Through a combination of virtual and in-person meetings, he helps them navigate their way through making decisions on choosing the correct graduate/medical school, the right post-doctoral advisor and the path to becoming a successful professional.
