Maribel Patino, PhD

Maribel Patino, MD, PhD, is a physician-scientist and psychiatry resident at the University of California, San Diego, on the National Institute of Mental Health-funded research track. She earned her undergraduate degree in molecular and cell biology from the University of California, Berkeley, and her MD and PhD in neuroscience at UC San Diego. Her research investigates the biological underpinnings of psychiatric disorders, with an interest in how dysfunction in glial cells and inhibitory neurons contributes to conditions like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
