Neuroscience and Art: One Lab’s Approach to Experimental Learning
Bevil Conway is a visual neuroscientist and artist who examines the neural basis of color using physiological, behavioral, and modeling techniques. He is an associate professor of neuroscience at Wellesley College and runs a lab split between Wellesley College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. At Neuroscience 2015, Conway spoke at the Professional Development Workshop, “Teaching Neuroscience to Nonscientists.” In this interview, he delves into why he focuses on empowering the student as the expert and leader of their own learning.

GABA-induced seizure-like events caused by multi-ionic interactive dynamics | eNeuro
Experimental evidence showed that an increase in intracellular chloride concentration ([Cl−]i ) caused by gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) input can promote epileptic firing activity, but the actual mechanisms remain elusive. Here in this theoretical work, we show that influx of chloride and concomitant bicarbonate ion (HCO3− ) efflux upon GABA receptor activation can induce epileptic firing activity by transitio...
